Well it’s been great to see the sun lately after a few weeks of wet weather. Let’s hope it stays this way.
THIS WEEKEND’s EVENTS:
Papatoetoe Open Day: Saturday 15 November - 10.00 a.m start. Includes Interprovincial trial for 12 & 13 year olds. Omana Park for 7 – 14 year olds.
Point Chevalier Open Day: Sunday 16 November – 10.00 a.m start. Walker Park for 7 – 14 year olds.
COLGATE NORTH ISLAND GAMES - WANGANUI 2009

All registered athletes aged 7-14 years old are welcome to compete at these Games. It’s a great opportunity to compete against some of New Zealand’s top Junior athletes. This year the club will pay the entry fee for those athletes competing. You will just need to complete the entry form.
Meeting dates: 9th, 10th, 11th January

• 60/100/200m/LJ/SP/DISC - All ages

South Island Colgate Games – Invercargill 16-18 January
• Entries are due in the same time for anyone wanting enter.

OTHER THINGS:
UNIFORM
• All athletes should now be in their club uniform.
• These are available for purchase from Tracey Calway and Donna Wallwork from the clubrooms each Wednesday evening.
• All athletes need to to have their Colgate age patch sewn onto their club singlet. Especially important for the athletes competing at upcoming relay championships.
• At the club every Tuesday and Thursday there are training sessions held. These evenings offer work on a range of events for all ages. Come along and work with Phillipa Samuels and Earl Crowley from 5.30 p.m to learn and perfect techniques. We encourage athletes to come along to help improve over the season. The club nights get very busy and often, there is only limited time to coach the athletes. A club night is more about competing with club members, improving personal performances and collecting points.
• Tuck-shop – On Wednesday evenings Judie and Sharron provide a great spread of savory and sweet food for you to enjoy. Including: Hot chips, sausages, muffins, cakes, drinks and much more... Pop in, say hi and check out their great selection!!

• TRANS TASMAN for 10/ 11 year olds - At the Auckland Delegates meeting last week, we were informed that there are still some vacancies available for Trans-Tasman.
Any 10 or 11 year old (as at 1/10/08) who would like to be considered for the Auckland Team to travel to Sydney in January should contact: Peter Wyatt on 0272 944 009 or golfmad@ihug.co.nz for further details. The cost is approximately $2100

• 22 November – Counties Manukau Relay Championships – Grade Managers will select teams and notify athletes.
• 6 December – Auckland Relay Championships – Grade Managers will select teams and notify athletes.
• 20 December - 10-14 years Auckland 1500m champs & Race walk race.
We are not a baby sitting service. It is important for parents not to drop your children at the club and take off at both CLUB nights and TRAINING sessions. We have had incidents where parents have even dropped off children on a club night that has been cancelled. It is not our responsibility to take care of individual children.

The Club had success on our first Club Trip to the Redwoods Forest Relay in Rotorua yesterday. We had 4 teams competing in the Youth section (11-18yrs) 4x3200m relay.
The Girls A Team (Nora Langreder - 12.59 Sarah Blyde - 13.17 Chloe Higson - 14.03 and Lucy Roper - 13.49) had a close battle with Napier for most of the way and eventual finished 46 seconds behind them in 2ND place.
The Girls B Team (Sarah Hughson - 14.35 Courtney Martin - 14.48 Timea Egan - 13.36 and Rosie Castle - 13.41) ran brillantly for such a young team and finished in 6th place of the 18 teams girls teams competing.
The Boys A Team (Fabian Castle - 11.01 Lachlan McNie - 11.38 Anthony Curry - 12.04 and Peter Wheeler - 12.19) were always in the top 3 and at the end finished in 3RD place.
The Boys B Team (Ray Wang - 12.53 Samir Brown - 14.10 David Lee - 12.01 and Cameron Gleed - 14.12) were also a young team and there for experience finished in an impressive 4th place of the 11 boys teams competing.

Pakuranga Athletic Club Junior athletes won 7 individual medals and 5 teams medals on Saturday at the New Zealand Road Champs held at Ruakura, Hamilton.
David Lee made it double titles for the second year in a row when he added the Boys 12 road title to the cross country title he won last month. Hannah Barker won her first New Zealand title when she won the Womens 19 5000m in 17.36.
Denise Mendonca won the Silver medal in the Girls 14 race but was very unlucky not to win as she was pipped on the line.
Bronze medals were won by Rosie Castle (Girls 12), Rachael Martin (Womens 16 Walk), Peter Wheeler (Boys 14) and Fabian Castle (Men 16).
Team Gold medals were won by Courtney Hendricksen (Women 16 - 8th) and Hannah Barker.
Team Silver medals were won by Fabian Castle, Alex Parlane (Men 19 - 11th) and Ben Barry (Men 19 - 14th).
Other athletes to finish in the top 10 were Sarah Hughson (Girls 12 - 7th), Courtney Martin (Girls 12 - 10th), Cameron Gleed (Boys 12 - 7th), Jay Wallwork (Boys 14 - 7th), Ray Wang (Boys 14 - 9th), Sarah-Amy Drummond (Women 16 Walk - 4th) and Sara Bradley (Women 19 - 9th).

The Junior Track and Field section have a very new committee this season. At this stage no one has come forward to be Chairperson, Secretary or Treasurer.
We need these positions filled urgently so final preparation for the upcoming season can be done.
If you are interested in joining the committee or volunteering to fill one of the above positions please contact Amanda at martin.5@xtra.co.nz or else come along to our next meeting on Monday 18th August at 7.30pm in the clubrooms.
The Auckland Centre is holding an Officials course on Wednesday 10th September. This is a great opportunity to become a graded official or upgrade your existing level. The 2010 Colgate Games are going to be held in Auckland so it is a good opportunity for anyone wanting to officiate during these Games to become qualified.

Pakuranga Junior athletes had a very successful day at the New Zealand Cross Country Champs held yesterday at Waikanae Park, Waikanae, Kapiti Coast.
David Lee retained his Boys 12 title when he finished 13 seconds ahead of Leo Roper who won his first NZ Champs medal. Peter Wheeler in the Boys 14 race finished a very close 2ND when only 2 seconds separated the first 4 runners. Other Top 10 finishes in the Boys 14 race were Shane McMaster (5th), Joachim Noble (9th) and Jay Wallwork (10th). Maeve Power (6th) and Rosie Castle (8th) were our top finishes in the Girls 12 race. In the Girls 14 race we had 5 athletes in the Top 10. Denise Mendonca (4th), Hayley Faulconbridge (6th), Lucy Roper (8th), Lea Driscoll (9th) and Briar Guy (10th). Courtney Hendricksen (16th) and Kelsey Wayne (20th) were our top finishers in the Women's 16 race. Fabian Castle (7th) and Scott Russell (12th) were members of the Auckland team who won silver medals in the Men's 16 race. Sara Bradley (14th) was also a member of the Auckland team who a silver medal in the Women's 19 race. Alex Parlane (21st) and James Hand (23rd) had a tough day in the Men's 19 race.

Next Saturday Pakuranga Athletic Club will have record numbers competing at the New Zealand Cross Country Champs at Waikanae Park, Kapiti Coast, Wellington. The Junior section will have 30 athletes representing the club and another 5 athletes will be representing Auckland.
Thanks to the generous funding of $4000 received from the SOUTHERN TRUST which covered most of the trip expenses.
Thanks also to the clubs management committee who paid the entry fees.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the athletes who competed in Taupo and helped the club win the TOP CLUB TROPHY for a RECORD 10TH time since the first win in 1996
Thanks to all the Athletes/Parents who traveled to Taupo. Without your support this result would not have happened.
Pakuranga Athletic Club has retained the Top Cup Trophy awarded to the top club at the North Island Cross Country
Champs held at Spa Park in Taupo on Saturday.
Pakuranga amassed a record 3959 points over the 16 races. We beat Olympic Harriers (Wellington) by a massive 1330 points.
Points are scored by the first three club members in each race and Pakuranga had 71 club members (47 Juniors) finish their event.
David Lee won the Boys 12 2000 metres race in a course record of 6 minutes 53 seconds which broke his own course record from last year by 15 seconds. This was his fourth title in a row after first winning in 2005.
Andrew Catley won his first title when he won the Boys 10 race over 1000m in 3 minutes 38 seconds. Leo Roper was our other medalist when he finished third in the Boys 12 race.

Pakuranga Junior athletes had a very successful day at the Glen Eden Relays yesterday held in wet conditions. There were 8 medals on offer and our teams won 7 of them. The Girls B team proved the selectors wrong when they beat the A team for a 1-2 finish. Our girls teams also placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd on estimated times. The Boys A team were also 1st and the B team 2nd. Our boys teams placed 2nd and 3rd on estimated times. Pakuranga won the Hanson Shield by a big margin and were a close 2nd in the Turnco Shield. Pakuranga Juniors had a top day at the Southland Centennial Cross Country Relay held at Mt Roskill War Memorial Park on Saturday. The A Team got off to a flying start with Fabian Castle running the fastest Junior lap of the day and giving the team a big lead. Lachlan McNie, Kelsey Wayne and Joachim Noble kept the team in front for a well deserved victory. The B Team of David Lee, Peter Wheeler, Chloe Higson and James Calway were only 50 seconds behind the A Team for an impressive 3RD place. The C Team of Douglas McMaster, Samir Brown, Courtney Hendricksen and Alexander Lloyd showed the clubs strength when they finished 5TH. Our teams should place well in the estimated time section when results are available.
Junior runners also had success in the Open Relay events. Alex Parlane ran the first lap for the winning Men’s A team and Ben Barry and Michael Whitehead were members of the Men’s B team that finished 2ND. Kelsi Patterson was a team member of the Women’s A Team that finished 2ND and new club member Hannah Barker ran fastest time in the B Team which finished 3RD. Congratulations to Hannah who was named in the New Zealand team last week to compete in the 1500m at the World Junior Champs in Poland in July.

Congratulations to the Pakuranga Club athletes who represented Auckland and Counties Manukau teams at the 2008 NORTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOL ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS last weekend. 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 3 Bronzes were won. Seven new club records were set.
